I. GENERAL INFORMATION

II. GENERAL POLICIES
  1. All entries must be delivered to the Vail America Days committee or to the Town of Vail offices on or before the appropriate deadline date. No entries will be accepted after 5:00pm on June 30, 2008.
  2. All entries shall convey the parade theme and shall be presented in a manner appropriate for a family audience.
  3. The Parade Committee has the right to control the parade theme and message.
  4. The Parade Committee determines the acceptability of all entries on an individual basis based on the criteria outlines in point #2.
  5. If there is a problem with an entry, the applicant will be informed on or before June 30, 2008, otherwise the entry has been accepted.
  6. Only approved entries are permitted to participate.
  7. All applications must include a concise typed or printed description of 25 words or less, for use by the parade announcers.
  8. We request that entrants incorporate as much creativity as possible in conjunction with the parade theme.
  9. No fund-raising activities may take place during/around the parade without written approval from the Parade Committee.
  10. Entries which, on the day of the event, do not coincide with the theme and design described in their application may be withdrawn from the parade if their actual entry does not adhere to all guidelines.

III. SAFETY GUIDELINES
  1. To help ensure the safety of the parade participants and spectators, nothing may be thrown into the audience. Handing out of candy and other items may be done, as long as the parade spectators are not encouraged to run into the parade route to retrieve items.
  2. Absolutely NO WATER BATTLES will be tolerated. There shall be no water pistols, or other items used to splash the parade spectators. Failure to adhere to this guideline will result in dismissal from parade and forfeiture of parade entry fee.

IV. GUIDELINES FOR BUSINESS/CORPORATE ENTRIES
  1. Promoting your business by participating in the parade is encouraged, provided the entry is in the spirit of the parade theme and adheres to all guidelines.
  2. We recommend that each business/corporate entry be affiliated with a non-profit organization. Example: ABC Corporation builds and operates a float in conjunction with the Boy Scouts. Entry fee: $50
  3. Business/corporate entries which do not have a non-profit partnership are permitted to participate. The entry fee is $200.
  4. Business/corporate entries shall adhere to all General Polices listed above.

V. GUIDELINES FOR POLITICAL ACTION/SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS
  1. As all other entries, political action/special interest groups shall adhere to all general policies, the parade theme, and shall be presented in a manner which is appropriate for a family audience.
  2. Political action/special interest group entries which do not incorporate the parade theme, or which are inappropriate for the nature of the parade and its audience, shall not be permitted to participate.
  3. Political action/special interest groups shall adhere to all General Policies as listed above.

VI. GUIDELINES FOR CHILDREN'S GROUPS
  1. Children's groups are encouraged to participate.
  2. Children's groups must conform to all General Policies.
  3. Organizers for children's groups are encouraged to take extra precautions to avoid sunburn and dehydration, and are requested to be proactive when considering the safety and personal needs (food and restrooms) of their participants.
  4. All participants will be required to include all children's names on a group waiver prior to participation.

VII. GUIDELINES FOR FLOATS
  1. All float applications must be accompanied with a detailed sketch of the float.
  2. Floats must have wheels, under-carriages, and trailer tongues concealed with skirting that extends to the ground.
  3. Floats must be constructed in a manner sufficient to prevent any disintegration and/or mechanical failure during the parade.
  4. Float entries must conform to all General Policies.

VIII. JUDGING CATEGORIES
First place certificates shall be awarded to the entries judged by the Parade Committee as the best in the following categories: The Sponsor's Award shall be awarded to the entry judged as being the best overall.
